Date: 11/29/2012 Time: 07:00 pm - 09:00 pm MOMS Club of Heathrow members and shoppers will be sipping, shopping and socializing to support and raise funds for holiday toys/gifts during the 5th Annual Sip & Shop Event to support Seminole County Families in Transition. The MOMS Club will raise vital funds and collect donated toys/gifts to help local families in needs this holiday season. The 5th annual MOMS Club of Heathrow Sip & Shop will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at three local clothing retailers, Sophie & Trey, 4th and Ocean and Tria, in Downtown Lake Mary. To support Families in Transition, the MOMS Club is asking for all shoppers to donate an unwrapped toy for Seminole County School children grades K-12. Donated toys will be distributed by Families in Transition to these children during the holidays. Sophie & Trey, 4th & Ocean and Tria will be donating 10% of sale proceeds for the purchase of additional holiday toys. The Families in Transition Program, established in April 2003 through grant funding from the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act, provides for the educational needs of children in the Seminole County School System who are considered homeless. Families in Transition serve students who lack a regular residence or have a primary nighttime residence. Once these students are identified they and their families receive assistance with enrollment procedures, transportation to their school of origin, school supplies, free breakfast and lunch, tutoring if needed and referrals to local service agencies for additional services if necessary. This involvement of the family, the school, as well as the community on behalf of the homeless students, is a primary goal of the Families in Transition Program.
