The Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club promotes recreational walking for fun, fitness and friendship. They will host a walk in Maitland on Saturday, February 16, 2013, starting at Walgreens Pharmacy, 330 Orlando Ave (US 17-92) Maitland, FL 32803.
Participants may register and start the walk any time between 9:00 & 9:30am. Walkers finish at their leisure.
The event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association and is open to the public. Participants may choose between a distance of 10 kilometers (6 miles) or 5 kilometers (3 miles). Walkers are given a guide with detailed walk-route directions and are welcome to walk with a group, a companion, or by themselves.
Walk on the tree-lined sidewalks of Maitland and through residential areas. The trail goes past the Waterhouse Museum overlooking Lake Lily (open Sat. 12-4pm) and the Maitland Art Center (open Sat. 12:00-4:30pm). The route also circles Lake Catherine and Lake Sybelia and travels near the Audubon Birds of Prey Center (Sat. open 10am to 4pm). Strollers and wheelchairs are acceptable. Leashed pets are allowed on the walk-route.
The cost for the walk is $3 for AVA Credit. Non-credit walkers may walk for free.
