This is an introductory session dealing specifically with JAWS. We go over JAWS and the internet, and will cover how elements are presented to the JAWS user, what JAWS says as an element gains focus, and accessibility considerations when designing web pages. In essence, we'll show you what you should be aware of when designing web pages and, if you are so inclined, how to perform basic JAWS commands if you would like to self-test your pages for accessibility.
Note that we will only present JAWS in this session, and other screen readers will handle web pages differently. In later sessions we will cover other screen reading software. This session is hosted by the Center for Distributed Learning, and will take place on the first floor of the John C. Hitt Library. To get here, go down spiral staircase outside the main entrance to the Library. You'll see doors that say "Online@UCF" and "Center for Distributed Learning". Go inside and tell the person at the front desk that you are there for the Tech Time presentation. This event is open to Students, Faculty, and Staff of the University of Central Florida.
