Graffiti Vandals Targeting Billboards

Posted: 12:46 pm EST December 1, 2008Updated: 1:17 pm EST December 1, 2008

Graffiti vandals are hitting billboards and businesses up and down State Road 50 in east Orange County between Rouse and Dean roads (see map). The billboard owners called Eyewitness News to shed light on the problem that's now cost them more than $10,000.

It appears the vandalism may be the work of someone who goes by the name of Kaso. They spray-painted a wall on the side of a Mexican restaurant near Dean Road and all of the graffiti is signed by someone who goes by the name Kaso. They also vandalized the billboard above the plaza twice and the owners have now taken it down indefinitely.

The vandal hit ads for KB Homes, a radio station and Landshark beer. The owners, CBS Outdoors, were sick of it they replaced one of their ads with an anti-graffiti billboard to scare the vandals, but they spray-painted it too.

So far, the vandalism has cost the billboard owners $10,000in damage and the businesses affected said they don't know when they can clean up the graffiti because business has been so slow they're hardly paying their other bills right now.

"When you see this, feels like you're going to a ghetto, to one of those neighborhoods that's really bad," said business owner Ruben Vargas.

"It will probably take somebody to fall off or maybe somebody just to go to jail to set an example," said Wayne Watts, CBS Outdoor.
