Man Grabs Birds, Runs From House After Lightning Strikes Nearby

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- A Daytona Beach Shores man grabbed his pet birds and ran when lightning struck his home.

John McEldrew says his home on Cardinal Boulevard filled with smoke seconds after the lightning hit. He made it out of the home with his pets, but firefighters still treated him with oxygen as a precaution."It sounded like an explosion. I thought maybe it hit the house," McEldrew said.Several firefighters responded, but there was no fire. While lightning is believed to be the cause, the incident is still under investigation.
