Hurricane Charley took a direct path overhead as he ushered in the 2004 hurricane season for Central Florida. Coastal residents also dealt with moderate damage from both Frances and Jeanne. Beach re-nourishment projects were hindered by Hurricane Ophelia, which brought several days of pounding surf in 2005.
