Woman Who Had Home Built On ABC's Extreme Makeover May Lose House

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- ABC's Extreme Makeover, Home Edition built a new home for a Seminole County woman running a neighborhood charity. But Channel 9 found out that same neighborhood could make her lose the home for good.Starting last spring, complaints from neighbors brought code enforcement to the house and Sadie Holmes is facing hundreds of dollars in fines per day. The new home was built on the site of a previous home on Amanda Street.

Sadie Holmes says she is faced with a $15,000 fine. Code Enforcement plans to file a lien at the end of the month and if that happens, Holmes said she'll probably go into foreclosure."I'm here doing something good and I get a slap on the back and it hurts," said Holmes.The home was built by ABC's Extreme Makeover, Home Edition more than two years ago, but its racking up code enforcement fines by the day. The code enforcement board claims neighbors have been complaining about it. Once an investigation was launched, a code enforcement officer found Holmes had two glaring violations and both involved vehicles parked at the home.The home was built in 2006. It houses Holme's non-profit Help Center. She provides food and clothing for the needy. Holmes says anytime she has been in noncompliance she has fixed the problem.But she says the two newest violations can't be fixed. According to code enforcement she had junked or abandoned vehicles on her property and she's storing a large truck in a residential area.Holmes says needs the trucks to transport food and clothing to the needy."Food has to be transported to and from," said Holmes. "It comes with running a business."The board will most likely place a $15,600 lien at the end of the month and, if that happens, Sadie says she will lose her home. She simply doesn't have the money to pay for it.In the meantime, Homes is working on securing a commercial storage area across the street."We decided to... move our business and hope this will be the end of it," said Holmes.A spokesperson from code enforcement says the board will work with Holmes as it is not their intention to shut her down.
