Orlando police said Shawn Roderick walked into the Walgreens on Kirkman Road (see map) less than a mile from his home, with BB guns and demanded cash from the store clerk. The boy only made it to the parking lot where he was arrested.

"It's not funny and it's very, very serious. The consequences in the justice system can be serious, said Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Department.

Police said the incident could have had a different ending if the boy didn't cooperate while being arrested.

"When those officers got there if there was a level of resistance by him and if he hadn't complied and pointed the guns and they looked real, it could have been a lot worse," Jones said.

Several pieces of evidence were collected including a bike and backpack.

Customers couldn't believe a boy in elementary school pulled off a robbery.

"What's he doing at that time of the morning? Where is mama and dad at? That time of morning he is supposed to be in bed," said witness Vivian Wellington.

Roderick will make his first appearance Tuesday.
