The emergency landing happened Thursday morning on Paddington Way near Highway 192 (see map). Someone on the ground had to help guide the balloon to make sure it didn't hit any homes.

It's not unusual for people who live in the west Kissimmee subdivision to see hot air balloons flying over their homes on any given day.

"This morning one of them was lower than usual, close to the houses, close to this house," eyewitness Mark Zeidenfelt said.

Mark said he was sitting near his swimming pool drinking a cup of coffee when he heard what he thought was the sound of kids yelling. When he looked up, he saw the balloon.

"I yelled for my wife to go get the camera as it was getting extremely close to the house," he said.

The hot air balloon, with three or four people in it, had to make an emergency landing. When the Zeidenfelts ran outside to see where they ended up, someone on the ground was pulling a rope tied to the basket and guiding it around other homes in order to avoid hitting them.

Fortunately that didn't happen, but it caused quite a scare for those who experienced it firsthand.

"They were upset, but I think they were thankful that everything turned out alright," Mark said.

The area is located a couple miles from the Lake County line and is a popular spot for hot air ballooning. A ground crew was following the balloon and helped bring it down safely when it missed its landing zone.
