Marlins' Miller Lands On DL

Friday, July 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins placed starting pitcher Andrew Miller on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right patella tendinitis.

Miller, 23, was scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies, but Josh Johnson will take his place due to the knee injury. He was examined by team doctors on Thursday and will test his knee by throwing a bullpen session in a few days.

The 23-year old Miller, acquired in an off-season trade with the Detroit Tigers, has allowed 21 runs while posting an 0-4 record in his past five outings. For the season, the left-hander is 5-9 with a 5.63 earned run average in 20 starts. He has been hampered by the patella tendinitis ever since last year with the Tigers.

To fill Miller's spot on the roster, Florida went down to Double-A Carolina to recall pitcher Jesus Delgado, who has yet to pitch at the big-league level.
