ChiSox Place Contreras On DL

Sunday, July 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox placed pitcher Jose Contreras on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, retroactive to July 18, with right elbow tendinitis.

Contreras, 36, is 7-6 with a 4.60 earned run average in 19 games this season. The right-hander went 6-3 with a 2.76 ERA in first 12 starts, but has struggled over his last seven outings, going 1-3 with a bloated 8.60 ERA.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled pitcher D.J. Carrasco from Triple-A Charlotte. Carrasco has gone 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA, one save and 24 strikeouts in eight games for Charlotte this season. The 31-year-old righty made one appearance for the big league club this season, allowing one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings on July 11.
