Pujols Leaves Game With Injury

Sunday, June 4, 2006

(Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols left Saturday's 8-5 loss versus the Chicago Cubs with a right oblique strain.

Pujols suffered the injury when chasing down a foul ball in the top of the second inning. He will be re-examined on Sunday, but indications are he'll be placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career.

Hector Luna moved from left field to first base in the third inning to replace Pujols, and John Rodriguez came off the bench to play left.

Pujols, the reigning National League MVP, has been the league's most productive hitter this season, racking up a staggering 25 home runs and 65 RBI to go along with a .308 average.
