Cincinnati Reds (44-38) At Milwaukee Brewers (40-43), 2:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers will try to put the brakes on a three-game skid when they welcome the Cincinnati Reds to town for the opener of a three-game series at Miller Park. The Brewers were swept this weekend in Minnesota and lost Sunday's finale by an 8-0 count. Francisco Liriano continued his domination of the major leagues, striking out a career-high 12 batters in eight shutout innings to lead the Twins. Jeff Cirillo had a pair of hits while Zach Jackson (1-1) gave up eight runs -- seven earned -- on seven hits in five innings for the Brewers, who have lost four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Reds dropped the final two tests of a three-game series versus Cleveland. Former Red Aaron Boone hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift Cleveland to a 6-3 win on Sunday. David Ross hit a pair of solo homers for the Reds, while Brandon Phillips and Juan Castro each went 2-for-4 in the loss. Cincy is currently second in the NL Central, one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals. Dave Bush heads to the mound today for the Brewers with hopes of evening his record for the season. Bush is 5-6 this year but has been excellent over his last three starts, going 1-0 with a 1.63 earned run average in that span. He posted a no decision last Wednesday at Wrigley Field despite allowing just one run in 6 2/3 innings against the Cubs. In two career starts against the Reds, Bush is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA in those tilts. Aaron Harang will shoot for his third consecutive victory and 10th overall this season when he toes the rubber for the Reds this afternoon. The 28-year-old right-hander is 2-0 with a 0.56 earned run average in his last two outings and is coming off last Wednesday's win against Kansas City. Harang tossed seven strong innings against the Royals, allowing just one run and six hits. Harang has nine career starts against the Brewers and is 4-2 with a 4.61 ERA in those outings. The Reds have won six of 10 meetings with Milwaukee this season and have taken three of the four matchups at Miller Park.
