Los Angeles Dodgers (46-47) At Arizona Diamondbacks (46-46), 9:40 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to stop a five-game losing streak tonight when they resume a four-game series with the National League West-rival Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Arizona posted an 8-3 win in Monday's series opener thanks to starting pitcher Enrique Gonzalez, who allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings and finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Eric Byrnes was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer for Arizona, while Shawn Green was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have won six of their past seven games. Arizona pulled within three games of the division-leading San Diego Padres, just a half game ahead of both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Arizona, which is 3-1 on a 10-game homestand and 22-24 as the host this season, will send Juan Cruz to the mound on Tuesday. Cruz is 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA in 16 games (nine starts) this season and 2-4 over his last seven starts. Cruz did not factor into the decision the last time out on July 9 against Colorado, allowing a pair of runs on two hits in five innings. In three games this season against LA, Cruz is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA. For his career, Cruz is 0-3 with a 5.24 earned run average in eight games against the Dodgers. Chad Billingsley will make his seventh start of the season for the Dodgers and is 0-2 with a 4.45 earned run average. Billingsley, a rookie right-hander, has posted back-to-back no decisions, including a July 13 contest against St. Louis. He held the Cardinals to no runs and six hits through five innings. Billingsley has never faced Arizona in his career. Last night Rafael Furcal was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost six of their last seven games. Jeff Kent was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss. Aaron Sele lasted just five-plus innings for Los Angeles, permitting five runs on nine hits. The Dodgers, who lost for the 13th time in 14 road games, are 0-5 on an eight-game road swing and 18-29 as the visitor this season. Los Angeles leads the 2006 season series with Arizona by a 5-4 margin, but is 0-3 at Chase Field this season. The D-backs won the 2005 series with LA, 13-5.
