Pujols Named NL Player Of The Week

(Sports Network) - St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has been named the National League's Player of the Week for the period ending September 28.

Pujols led the NL with a .588 (10-for-17) batting average and a 1.235 slugging percentage and tied for the league-lead with 10 RBI, a .680 on-base percentage and seven walks. He also homered in three straight games (Sept. 25-27) on his way to his eighth career weekly award and second of the 2008 season.

He finished the season with a .357 average, second in the NL and in the majors, along with 37 home runs and 116 RBI.

Other nominees this past week included Pujols' teammate Troy Glaus (.364, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Milwaukee's CC Sabathia (2-0, 0.56 ERA, 18 SO), Philadelphia's Ryan Howard (.368, 2 HR, 5 RBI), the Mets' Johan Santana (2-0, 1.06 ERA, 19 SO) and Atlanta's Josh Anderson (.400, 2 HR, 3 RBI).
