Marlins Release Mitre

(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins released pitcher Sergio Mitre on Monday.

The right-hander, who underwent Tommy John surgery on July 15 and missed the entire 2008 season, is not expected to return until the middle of next season at the earliest.

Mitre is 10-23 lifetime with a 5.36 earned run average in 78 games, including 52 starts, for the Cubs and Marlins. In 2007 with Florida, he went 5-8 with a 4.65 ERA in 27 starts.

The planned 2011 target date for the new Florida Marlins stadium has been pushed back one year due to the extensive lawsuit filed by auto dealer Norman Braman, according to Marlins president David Samson on Tuesday.
