Termite Advice For Homeowners
TERMITES IN FLORIDA
Termites are responsible for more than $7 billion annually in costs to Florida consumers. There are two main termite types in Florida:
Subterranean termites live in soil and attack structures from the ground up.
Drywood termites can live in isolated pieces of wood such as attic rafters. They often go undetected until they cause major damage.
ADVICE FOR CONSUMERS
Make sure pest control companies you're using are licensed. Get and compare written estimates and contracts from at least three pest control companies. Call 1-800-HELP-FLA with questions about contracts or companies' records or licenses.
HOME PROTECTION ADVICE
Remove wood piles and other cellulose sources from under and next to your home. Have an annual inspection of your home by a licensed professional pest control company. Renew your termite protection contract (also called a termite bond) annually. Direct water sources, such as air conditioner drip lines and roof downspouts, away from the structure foundation.
