Recall Grounds 685,000 Toy Helicopters

Battery Can Overheat, Catch Fire

Thursday, July 24, 2008

The maker of the Sky Scrambler and Sharper Image wireless indoor helicopters has recalled about 685,000 of the toys.

A news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Innovage LLC products have a rechargeable lithium ion battery that can overheat and catch fire.

Innovage has received two reports of the toy helicopters igniting, including one burn injury to a consumer's fingertip.

The helicopters have yellow, red or blue decals. BH26047 is printed on the Sky Scrambler's tail, and "The Sharper Image" is printed on the tail of others.

They were sold at mass merchandisers, department stores, drugstores, and other retail stores nationwide and on the web from June 2007 through May 2008 for about $20.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helicopters and contact Innovage for a full refund, the release said.

For more information, call Innovage at 866-672-2630 or visit CopterRecall.org.
