Wizards Finally Figure Out How To Shoot On The Road

(Sports Network) - New York City can be an intimidating place for those visiting. However, the Washington Wizards appeared to feel right at home when they took the court at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night.

Behind a near-flawless shooting performance from the perimeter, the Wizards finally secured their first road victory of the season with a 113-102 decision over the Knicks. Washington made good on 14-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc, tying a team record for three-pointers made in a single game.

The Wizards had lost eight straight games away from home to begin the 2006-07 campaign, the worst such start in franchise history.

"We made shots tonight," said guard Gilbert Arenas, who led Washington with 38 points. "Any team that shoots like that, even if you get outrebounded it's still hard to beat them."

The Wizards' markmanship from long distance was in stark contrast to their last visit to the Garden, in which the team misfired on every one of its 15 three-point tries during a 20-point loss to the Knicks on November 15. Washington's dismal shooting display tied an NBA record for most attempts from three-point range without a make.

Arenas, who was 0-for-7 from the three-point line in that November defeat, made 6-of-9 such shots this time around. Antawn Jamison went 6-of-8 from past the mark during his 33-point effort on Wednesday.

Washington's shooting success in an enemy arena was certainly a welcome sight for head coach Eddie Jordan. Coming into the latest New York game, the Wizards had a league-worst 40 percent field goal percentage on the road.

The Wizards will strive to make it back-to-back road triumphs on Friday when they battle the struggling Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.
