Hawks Prepare For Playoffs In Miami

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks will try to enter the postseason on a winning note, as they pay a visit to the Miami Heat this evening at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Atlanta will enter the playoffs for the first time since 1998-99 as the eighth seed, and gets a chance to upset the top-seeded Boston Celtics in the opening round. It has dropped two in a row, however, and suffered a 121-105 setback to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday at Philips Arena.

Marvin Williams and Salim Stoudamire each had 16 points for the Hawks, who have lost three of four. They finished the regular season with a 25-16 record as the host.

Miami will finally put this tumultuous season behind them, as it owns a 14-67 record. The Heat have lost three in a row and 10 of 11, including Monday's 91-75 decision to the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre.

Daequan Cook tallied a game-high 22 points, while Chris Quinn netted 14 points and Ricky Davis 11 in defeat. Miami ended the season with a 6-35 record away from South Beach.

Another loss for the Heat and they will have the worst record in franchise history. Miami (14-67) went 15-67 in its inaugural 1988-89 season.

The Heat, who are winless in 15 Wednesday games this season, have dropped three of four and 10 of the last 12 contests at home. They are 8-32 at AmericanAirlines Arena in 2007-08.

Atlanta is 3-0 against the Heat this season, but Miami is 14-4 over the past 18 matchups in the series. The Hawks have not swept a season series against Miami since the 1990-91 campaign.

The Hawks have lost 11 of 12 and 20 of their past 22 trips to South Beach.
