Man Says Child Porn Allegations Are 'Misunderstanding'

Posted: 3:55 pm EST November 29, 2006Updated: 5:58 pm EST November 29, 2006

A Winter Springs man was arrested for allegedly having child pornography on his computer, but he told Eyewitness News that it was all a big misunderstanding and now neighbors don't know what to think.

Jack Nation lives in a home in Winter Springs. He says he's often on his computer and claims unsolicited child porn pictures were emailed to him and he invited Eyewitness News into his house to talk about it.

"People actually sent me pictures, unsolicited. I guess they were on the computer. Once they are on there, they are on there. I don't know that much about it," Nation said Wednesday.

When Eyewitness News asked Nation, 69, about charges of kiddie porn on his computer, he claimed he didn't realize what he was opening before it was too late.

"I'm basically a nice person and I didn't do anything intentional to bring shame on me or my family or anybody else," he said.

Though he said it wasn't intentional, there are 11 charges against him alleging he opened 11 different pictures. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement's computer crime center cracked the case.

The FDLE said they went to a chat room that no longer exists, called Petit Picture Traders. They were able to trace the people in the chat room. They said Nation was one of them and that gave authorities probable cause to confiscate his computer. That's when they found the images.

Neighbors didn't want to be identified, but said they are concerned.

"Who knows what's going on behind closed doors?" one neighbor questioned.

What's going on in his computer, Nation claims, is just some confusion.

"Well, actually, I feel like it's a misunderstanding. I have an attorney and I think it's going to be cleared up real soon," he said.

Nation was released on $55,000 bond. Eyewitness News found Nation has no prior convictions.
