Police Make Arrest In Altamonte Murder

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Altamonte Springs detectives arrested a man Wednesday night in an Altamonte Springs murder.Detectives arrested 27-year-old Elkan Chance after he was questioned for allegedly killing his roommate, Mark Chandler.Police responded to the second floor unit at the Springs Colony Apartments after receiving calls from three neighbors complaining about a disturbance and shots fired around 1:00am Wednesday."I thought somebody was fighting. A couple was fighting. I didn't hear any gunshots," neighbor Scarlett LeDone said.When officers arrived they found the door open and Chandler's lifeless body inside. Investigators said this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence."A murder is a murder to me. Random or planned," said Jason Pratile, another neighbor. "It's still not soothing."Police said people in the area don't need to fear for their safety, stressing that this type of criminal activity rarely happens. The last time detectives In Altamonte Springs investigated a homicide was more than a year ago.Investigators said the murder was the result of a dispute between Chance and Chandler.
