Manager: Dealership Will Reopen Using Portable Buildings

LEESBURG, Fla. -- By noon Wednesday, Plaza Lincoln-Mercury hopes to be open again for business after Tuesday's 3-alarm fire. Portable office trailers will be used so employees can get back to work.

The general manager said he has 60 employees depending on the business for work and about seven customers cars that were destroyed in the fire that need to be replaced. Investigators do believe the fire was accidental.The car dealership is planning to be open by noon Wednesday, using portable offices to get business back to usual, General Manager John Killroy said."We have 60 employees who rely on us and we are going to be open for business," said Killroy.Employees will come in Wednesday and work out of portable offices.More than one dozen pumper and ladder trucks worked Tuesday night to put out the 3-alarm fire that destroyed much of the Plaza Lincoln-Mercury dealership. At one point, smoke could be seen from 20 miles away, so bad a nearby airport runway had to be shut down.But the dealership wants to get back to business-as-usual as soon as possible, not just for those 60 employees, but also for about a half-dozen customers whose cars were destroyed."We are going to replace them. We are going to take care of our customers," Killroy added.Numerous fire crews, from both the Leesburg Fire Department and Lake County Fire Department, were on the scene working to extinguish the massive blaze. By 5:00pm Tuesday, the fire was under control.The damage was concentrated in the service department, sales department and computer room. The State Fire Marshal is investigating a cause.No injuries were reported.
