Downtown Orlando CVS Robbed At Gunpoint

Posted: 6:40 am EDT May 29, 2007Updated: 1:14 pm EDT May 29, 2007

There were some scary moments, late Monday night, for employees at an Orlando CVS store. Two gunmen burst into the pharmacy on Colonial and Mills demanding cash.

Minutes before closing time, two men walked through the front doors of the CVS on Colonial Drive and Mills Avenue and demanded cash from the workers. Police are searching for the suspects and neighbors are searching for a way to reduce crime.

Employees at the CVS drug store hugged each other after probably one of the scariest shifts they'll ever work. Just before 10:00 Monday night, two men wearing dark clothing walked into the drug store and demanded cash.

Nobody was hurt, but the robbers did get away with an unspecified amount of money. They left in an unknown direction.

Police K-9 units were unable to get their track. People who live in the neighborhood said they are sick and tired of crime in the area.

Sunday, there was shooting nearby on Magnolia Avenue and some believe the violence is getting worse.

"It's gotten bad in the last months, since they started chasing the transients and users this way," said one resident.

Police do not think the crimes are linked, but residents said it is still unsettling. One resident said she wants to get her neighbors together and do something about the crime.

"I'm thinking about getting a neighborhood watch started here because we all need to watch out. There are a lot of ingle families here, a lot of families with kids," she said.

The CVS stores typically have very sophisticated security camera systems. Detectives will most likely be going through the video Tuesday, but it is not yet known if the tapes will be released to the public.
