A would-be robber who tried to hit a Brevard County convenience store got hit right back. The suspect ended up having to fight off a 77-year-old customer who was determined to take a bite out of crime.

The 77-year-old Good Samaritan who helped fight off the robber was actually the clerk's roommate.

"The guy came in, pointed something at him. Then he jumped behind him and started beating on him," said Tom Leary, the 77-year-old man who helped fight off the robber with a wooden stool.

Lucas Pereira can thank a couple of good friends who stuck up for him during a robbery at a Shell convenience store in Titusville.

Police identified the would-be robber as 42-year-old Buford Eugene Brown. Instead of just standing there, Leary tried to help his roommate. Surveillance cameras caught him hitting Brown over the head with a stool as Brown grabbed money from the register.

The stool broke. The clerk even tried using a stun gun, but Brown was too big and powerful.

"No effect, man. This guy is like a stone. Unbelievable," Pereira said.

"I tried to contain him inside. I pushed the door closed but he was too big. He managed to come out. We had a little fight around the corner here," said Derek Rosario, a customer in the store when Brown jumped behind the counter.

Rosario took a few swings at Brown in the parking lot. Meanwhile, the clerk grabbed Brown's car keys and ran back to the store and locked himself in the office.

"He came back, man. He came back for the key. He was looking for the key. He banged the door, you know," Pereira said.

Brown left without his key and without any money in his pocket. Thanks to two Good Samaritans who intervened, police were able to track him down minutes later. Brown is being held in county jail charged with unarmed robbery and battery on a person 65 years or older.
