ORLANDO, Fla. -- Someone stole a silver car from in front of a home on Yaupon Street in Orlando on Sunday afternoon. He made it about a mile, when he realized the 2-month-old baby was in the backseat and ditched the car. By that time frantic family members had already called police.

"I was praying to God that they didn't take the baby," said Ketty Louissaint, the child's Aunt.Investigators said the child's mother, Whitline Louissaint, left the child in a running car while she ran inside to get an umbrella. Unfortunately, it provided the perfect opportunity for the thief."It only takes a criminal one second to jump in and commit the kind of act they just did,"said Orlando Police Officer Noah Pruitt. The car was recovered and the baby was safe, but the thief escaped. However, police did charge the child's mother with child neglect, a third-degree felony, and leaving the child in the car with the engine running, which is a misdemeanor.
