CENTRAL FLORIDA -- These are details on several structurally-deficient bridges in the Central Florida area.Six out of 800 bridges in Central Florida are structurally-eficient and scheduled to be replaced.
Florida Department of Transportation engineers inspect bridges every two years. Structurally-deficient bridges are inspected more frequently.
"Deficient" means a bridge has structural issues. For example, a structurally-deficient bridge might have problems with breams, pilings or erosion under water. It does not mean is it in danger of collapsing. It means it does not meet FDOT standards.
