'Ninja' Robbers Sought After Two Orlando Jewelry Heists

A group of men dressed like ninjas broke into two jewelry stores Wednesday morning. The first burglary was at Adam's Jewelry on Corrine Drive and then there was another one about 40 minutes later at Karadema Jewelry Store on Curry Ford Road.

"Gold, silver, platinum, diamond," said David Adam, owner of Adam's Jewelrey.

Much of the high-end jewelry Adam sells at his store on Corrine Drive is gone.

"That sick feeling that you get in your stomach, yeah, it's not good," he said.

The four men who broke into the neighborhood jewelry store did everything they could to avoid getting caught. They covered themselves in a cloth material and broke in through the back door of a connecting business so they wouldn't trip the alarm.

The suspects then tried to tear down the concrete walls, but the opening didn't lead to the jewelry store, so they ripped out the ceiling tile, hoping to crawl through. That didn't work either, so finally they broke down the front door and covered the surveillance camera with the same cloth material they had covered themselves in.

"I'm very upset, yes," said building owner Mary Terrell.

The thieves shattered the thick glass cases and stole watches, rings, necklaces and earrings.

"It's ridiculous for people not to care anymore about other people's property," Terrell said.

Police believe the same four thieves left Adam's Jewelry and drove 15 minutes to Karadema Jewelry Store on Curry Ford Road. Two homeless men happened to get a good look at the suspects there and told police they left in a dark colored SUV and may have been white or Hispanic males.

The distinct ninja-style disguise may help police narrow their search, but they are also depending on the same surveillance video the crooks spent so much time trying to avoid.

"It could have been a lot worse, but it could always be better," Adam said.

The owner of Adam's Jewelry said Wednesday afternoon he's still waiting to learn exactly how much of his jewelry was stolen.
