The thefts follow federal government orders that required passengers to leave their luggage unlocked after 9-11.Gesa Barto of Eustis said someone took two laptops from her husband’s bags when he flew from OIA to Newark, New Jersey. One contained a 400-page novel that could never be recovered.“Just because the baggage is checked for all kinds of liquids and this and that, you think your personal belongings are taken care of. They’re not!” said Barto. In response to the thefts, A spokesperson with the Transportation Security Administration issued this statement by email:"The TSA aggressively investigates all allegations of misconduct and, if infractions are discovered, moves swiftly to end the federal careers of any offender."In three years at OIA, 1,245 items were reported stolen at a value of $864,000.
