Orlando Police Chaplains Kick Off "Operation Armor All"

Posted: 12:32 pm EDT October 10, 2007Updated: 12:52 pm EDT October 10, 2007

In Parramore, the Orlando Police Department is hoping to rally the community to fight back against the type of violent crime that claimed Officer Alfred Gordon's life. The department's chaplains are calling on the community to reclaim the city through prayer over the next 40 days.

Orlando Police Department chaplains are expected at Parramore Heritage Park on Wednesday afternoon. They will hold a vigil to kick off what they're calling "Operation Armor All."

The city of Orlando has certainly seen its share of dangerous violence, as evident with the killing of Officer Gordon.

The chaplains will gather at the park to pray against violence, but they hope to inspire churches and pastors throughout the community to do the same, so they are asking 40 churches to commit to praying for the next 40 days.

Organizers want each church to pick a day to go to a community in Orlando to pray and they're asking the churches and their members to pray for an hour in that community. They hope this effort will last through November.
