ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Resident and visitors in Ormond Beach said they could feel the effects of the red tide on Saturday and Sunday. The algae are virtually invisible, but the toxins it releases can irritate your eyes and your throat. Some people said it felt like they were catching a cold."I have the overwhelming urge to sneeze - just breathing is an issue," said Robin Richards, a beachgoer.Florida Fish and Wildlife tested for red tide in Ormond Beach on Tuesday and recorded low levels, but beachgoers said the number of dead fish that washed ashore told another story. A strong enough red tide can deplete the fish population and drive away business along the coast. The red tide could last days or weeks. If you are sensitive to it, you should probably stay indoors.
