PALM BAY, Fla. -- A man drove his SUV into a lake in Palm Bay, but rescuers couldn't get to the car because of a big alligator.

The driver told investigators he swerved on Hollywood Boulevard to miss an animal and plunged into the lake. The gator kept divers from getting the car out of the lake.

The driver was taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.
