DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A judge denied a request to put Daytona Beach's outspoken police chief under a gag order.

The defense attorney for former city commissioner Michael Shallow filed the request. He said police chief Mike Chitwood's comments could keep his client from getting a fair trial.Shallow and eight others were arrested last month in a sex sting at a men's room at the Volusia Mall.At a press conference after the sting, chief Chitwood referred to the suspects as "scumbags."
