ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty fired back Wednesday after a Channel 9 report raised the question of whether he was misleading people on a rate hike for toll roads.Crotty is the chairman of the Expressway Authority. The report Tuesday night showed him recently saying he was against a toll hike, but at the same time the Expressway Authority was negotiating long-term bond deals where they said future rate hikes might be necessary.Crotty responded to the report before the Expressway board Wednesday."But, there's no plan, no secret agenda, and to say that a toll increase is going to happen i think is a gross misrepresentation of reality," Crotty said.Crotty said he personally opposes a toll increase, but won't take it off the table if one is necessary to build the Wekiva Parkway and complete the beltway around Orlando. He also said, when you account for inflation, the toll ways are cheaper today than they were 16 years ago.
