Victims Identified In Fatal Crash On I-95 In Brevard County

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Two people were killed and another critically hurt in a head-on crash in Brevard County on Thursday morning. The wreck caused a seven-mile long backup on I-95.

The crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 at the Wickham Road exit near Melbourne, but they were reopened just before noon. The freeway was shut down for more than two hours after the crash that killed two people as crews worked to clean up the scene.Eyewitnesses said an SUV driving northbound on the interstate veered off the road into the median and crossed over into oncoming traffic. The SUV crashed into a tan pickup truck, sending it into the median.One person inside the SUV and a person inside the pickup were killed. A passenger was airlifted out in critical condition. The two fatalities were identified as 23-year-old Dawn M. Sohnrey of Cocoa and 32-year-old Lara S. Foster of Orlando. Joseph J. Poitras, 28, of Orlando was seriously injured.There were initial reports that another passenger was thrown from one of the vehicles and was in the brush somewhere nearby. The sheriff's helicopter came out and searched the area, but didn't find anyone.
