Investigators Tight-Lipped About Woman's Body Found In Daytona Beach

Posted: 4:51 pm EST January 4, 2008Updated: 6:13 pm EST January 4, 2008

Even more police activity was swarming Friday through the wooded area where a murder victim was found in Daytona Beach on Wednesday. Public Works crews spent much of the day clearing out brush and debris around the crime scene on Hancock Boulevard.

Beyond that, investigators have been very tight-lipped about the woman they found. Eyewitness News asked police if the death could be connected to unsolved murders of women in 2006, but their answer every time was "no comment."

After the autopsy finished Friday, police got more detailed in their search. Dump trucks rolled in and city workers outfitted with chainsaws started clearing away brush and trees from the remote spot in the city where police found the woman's body Wednesday night.

They searched the area all day Thursday, but investigators were back in force Friday afternoon.

"Making sure we haven't missed anything and, with the bushes being there, we can't see what we're doing," explained Jimmie Flynt, Daytona Beach Police Department.

The medical examiner determined Friday it was a homicide, but police wouldn't say how the woman died.

It was around two years ago when Daytona Beach police started investigating three murders that they eventually linked to one serial killer. The deaths of the women were never solved and, when Eyewitness News asked if the open cases had any similarities to the new one, the only response was, "No comment."

Police said they're not sure yet if where the woman was found is where she was killed and are investigating the possibility the body was dumped. While they haven't said if there are any suspects, investigators said it's likely not someone who was just passing through.

"I would think you would have to know the area. I don't think somebody just coming off the interstate would know this place here," Flynt said.

Police still don't know who the woman was and said they'll probably have to look at dental records just to figure out how old she was.
