Employees Learn Of Casino Ship's Change Of Plans At The Dock

Posted: 7:12 am EST January 7, 2008

Some Sun Cruz Casino workers in Volusia County will meet with company representatives, Monday, to find out if they still have jobs.

Workers said the casino ship docked for the last time in Ponce Inlet on Sunday night. Employees said they we're notified right before their shift, Sunday, that Sun Cruz was no longer going run the boat out of Volusia County.

They said as many as 100 people could be out of a job.

"I just come down to undock the boat, tie it up. They said it was the last trip. That's how I found out. Everybody else did too, you know. Nobody knew about it," said Bill Abercrombie, a Sun Cruz employee.

Employees hope to find out about possible severance pay or another job within the company, Monday. The ship has been operating out of Ponce Inlet for the past 11-years.
