St. Cloud Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student

Friday, January 25, 2008 – updated: 11:47 pm EST January 25, 2008

Osceola County deputies said Sarah Elizabeth Joel started a sexual relationship with one of her eighth grade students at Narcoossee Community School in St. Cloud last year.

That student now attends Harmony High School. A teacher at that school learned of the sexual relationship and informed deputies.

“She was in a position of authority. He was one of her students and it was very inappropriate,” said Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Joel,30, is married and has two children. Deputies said she and the student admitted to having a sexual relationship at Joel’s home, but their timelines are different.

The boy said the sexual encounters started in the summer, but Joel says the relationship started last month.

“Why would an adult want to have a relationship with a student,” said Stranna Rembert, a parent at Narcoossee School.

Joel was booked into the Osceola County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious battery with a student. She has been a teacher with the Osceola County School District since October of 2006. The District reassigned her to the main office pending the outcome of the investigation.
