Neighbors in the Barclay Place condos in Lake Mary watched the chaos as it happened Friday. Two suspected car thieves on the run from police were arrested after a chase in a car and on foot.

A lot of neighbors witnessed the chase go down Friday morning. They said the two young suspects were already running from police when they climbed a fence and ran off into condos.

A maintenance man tackled one of the suspects and held on until deputies arrived. Both of the suspects were ultimately taken into custody at the upscale Barclay Place condos in Lake Mary.

"I was looking out my back windows and these two boys hopped over the fence right behind our house," said eyewitness Elanor Mengel.

Elanor and Bill Mengel saw the two young men as they tried to get away on foot. The chase had started when deputies spotted a stolen Honda Civic. The driver wouldn't pull over and eventually ditched the still-running car in a reserved parking space for the Women's Club Champion at the Legacy Golf Club at Alaqua Lakes.

Investigators found a car stereo already torn out and a mangled steering column. It was a strange sight in a nice area where people say they're not used to seeing suspects making a run for it.

"I thought to myself, now would be the time to be about 30 years younger and go after 'em," Bill Mengel said.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office was still trying to confirm the identities of the two suspects early Friday afternoon.
