INDIALANTIC, Fla. -- Brevard County attorneys are trying to make it a criminal offense for tow truck drivers who charge more than the fees allowed by the county.Della Pollard Cuddy is one of the 16 people who filed complaints with the Indialantic Police Department. They say they were stalked by tow truck drivers before they were gouged for steep fees."I was extremely angry," Della told Eyewitness News.Della said she parked in a lot and avoided the signs that were clearly marked tow away and parked in an area that didn't have any signs. She thought it was okay, but later found out it wasn't."They were set for the day. They had their little snacks and water and that was their job for the weekend," Della said. The Brevard County Attorney's Office wants to make it a misdemeanor for tow truck companies to charge more than the fees allowed by the county. It would stop a practice that some say is getting out of control. But it wouldn't change anything about the tow trucks that are targeting drivers who might leave their cars for a matter of minutes before those cars are towed away."Do something about it," Della said.Code Enforcement said it is working to toughen up the code and it will take some time to make the changes. The county commission will discuss the issue Tuesday night.
