Nearly Half Of Homes Near Old Orange County Bombing Range In Foreclosure

Posted: 7:45 am EST February 19, 2008

Eyewitness News has learned nearly half the homes in the Lee Vista area of east Orange County are in foreclosure.

An estimated 40-percent of the homes built near the old Pine Castle bombing range are in foreclosure compared with 10-percent in a most Orange County neighborhoods. People in four subdivisions have seen their property values plummet since the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started finding old bombs buried in the soil last July.

Dozens of homeowners are walking away from their properties and going into foreclosure.

"This is insane. We don't feel safe. We're shaking all the time," said Eileen Krupoderov, a resident. "What do we do? We hear helicopters overhead all the time. This is, like, what? This is ridiculous."

Orange County commissioners are teaming up with realtor Lydia Pisano for a foreclosure seminar for the affected neighborhoods.
