Bike Week Begins With Two Fatal Motorcycle Accidents

Bike Week 2008 has already seen several motorcycle accidents. By sunset Saturday there were two fatalities.

The first fatal accident happened around 10:00 Saturday morning. According to state troopers 23-year-old Derek Edwards, of Roanoke, VA, was speeding on his motorcycle around a curve on Maytown Road when he lost control. He went into a ditch and was thrown off his motorcycle.

The second deadly accident happened Saturday evening in DeLand. Investigators say a car pulling out from Woodmont Road collided with two motorcycles driving north on Woodland Blvd. One biker died on the scene, the other was taken to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries.

Last year 8 motorcyclists died during this event.
