City Of Riviera Beach Passes 'Droopy Pants' Law

Posted: 9:34 am EDT March 12, 2008

Pull them up, or pay up. That's what voters in Riviera Beach are telling people who wear baggy pants.

Tuesday, they overwhelmingly approved a new ordinance that outlaws the low hanging pants. Under the new law, anyone with droopy pants that show skin or underwear faces legal action. The first offense carries a $150 fine or community service.

The town's mayor likes the new rule.

"We believe we still best waterfront city to live, work, play and keep your pants pulled up," said Riviera Beach mayor Thomas Master.

People who are caught numerous times wearing baggy pants could be sent to jail for 60 days.
