Mouse Holds Plane Hostage For 5 Hours

Posted: 3:22 pm EDT March 13, 2008Updated: 11:10 am EDT March 14, 2008

A pint-sized pest proved to be a major problem for some passengers at the Des Moines International Airport on Thursday morning.

According to Allied Travel Agents, Delta Flight 4704 was delayed more than five hours, KCCI-TV in Des Moines reported.

Travel agents said their clients were scheduled to fly out at 5:50 a.m. but were grounded until 11:39 a.m. because of a mouse.

Witnesses said it wasn't the passengers who were scared, but a flight attendant who was too frightened to fly.

Crews set up traps with peanut butter onboard the plane in the hopes of catching the miniature stowaway.

The delay prevented many of the passengers on the flight from making their connecting flights out of Atlanta.

The flight finally landed in Atlanta at 2:46 p.m.

Travelers at the airport said the story is the only thing people were talking about.

"A pilot on another flight out of the airport even joked about the mouse during his take-off" announcement after the incident had indirectly delayed that flight as well, a passenger said.
