EDGEWATER, Fla. -- A little boy says someone tried to kidnap him Wednesday on his way to school. What's different about this case is the attempted kidnapper was a woman. She targeted the boy along US-1 in Edgewater.A similar incident has happened twice to boys and a couple young girls were approached as well. In Wednesday's case, the boy had just come across US-1 back and there was even a crossing guard posted, but police said the boy did everything right to avoid trouble.A student from the Edgewater area, for the third time in just over three months, had an unsettling run-in with a stranger in a car. The elementary student told police he was just walking to school Wednesday when a woman driving a full-size white van pulled up next to him."Asked him if he needed a ride to school. He never said anything, kept walking forward," said Officer Randy Mumpower, Edgewater Police Department. That was exactly the thing to do, police said, and the woman drove off without another word. It was similar to a December incident nearby where a woman in a van approached a boy. In January, a man exposed himself to two young girls at a bus stop.Parents said, after three incidents, their concern is beginning to grow."If they're bold enough in the daytime to approach a child and say, 'Come with me,' or whatever they say, that scares me," said parent Sharon Crouch.Police said vehicle descriptions are different and likely not connected, but the number of incidents is an issue."This could be innocent. We have to look at it, take the stance, both sides. We don't know. It could be somebody that's not so genuine, could have bad intentions," Mumpower said. The school district activated its automatic call system Wednesday to inform parents and police did extra patrols as school got out and said they're likely going to continue that through the end of the school year.
