Army Corps Says Bombing Range Search Could Take 18 Months

Posted: 6:43 am EDT March 28, 2008Updated: 8:50 am EDT March 28, 2008

The Army Corps of Engineers now says the search for bombs near the old Pinecastle bombing range could take up to a year and a half.

Engineers met with 100 residents from the Lee Vista area Thursday night to explain their new plan to search for bombs near their homes. They will use digital equipment and metal detectors to investigate nearly 1,300 acres, starting with residential areas.

Engineers say they won't look underneath homes or pools, because there needs to be some sort of impact to set off the bombs.

Engineers will come up with a clean-up plan once the investigation is complete.
