ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Some truck drivers are parking their big rigs, stopping deliveries and going on strike. They're protesting the high price of fuel.In Central Florida, Eyewitness News found several truckers who say they plan to stay at home because of high diesel prices. Others plan to drive extra slow on interstates. It's impossible to know exactly how many will participate, but it's up to each individual driver who owns his own truck. Drivers have taken a big hit lately with diesel costing about $4 a gallon. The trucking industry is experiencing some of the highest diesel prices in history. It costs some drivers between $600 and $1,200 to fill up a tank. Many are saying the high prices are making it very hard for them to make a living. One driver Eyewitness News talked to unhitched his trailer and is on his way home. He plans to park his truck for a week."It all comes out of my pocket ... I can't afford it no more. If something doesn't change here soon, I'm gonna have to find another line of work," said trucker Eric Wall.On blogs and on CB radio, some drivers are encouraging each other to drive extra slow on the interstate as a way to protest. None of the drivers Eyewitness News talked to plan to do that. Also, the Highway Patrol said it will issue tickets to anyone going under the minimum 40 miles per hour on the interstate. There's been talk of trucker strikes for years, but this time drivers say they're serious.
