UCF Dorm Evacuated Due To Heavy Smoke

Friday, April 4, 2008 – updated: 11:44 am EDT April 5, 2008

A University of Central Florida dorm was evacuated Friday night because of a heavy smoke. At least one UCF police officer was taken to Florida Hospital East and another was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Officials said a candle may have caught a wooden door on fire on the third floor of Tower 4 on Central Florida Boulevard, near Andromeda Drive.

Officials told Eyewitness News that the windows on the third floor do not open and cannot be broken.

Firefighters said they did not locate actual flames, but said heavy smoke filled the building. No other injuries were reported.
