Port St. John Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 2 Wounded

A woman and her boyfriend are dead after a shooting incident involving the woman's estranged husband Friday night. The shooting occurred at a mobile home park on Akorn Street in Port St. John.

The woman's son was also shot after he struggled with his father, who Brevard Sheriff's investigaors said was trying to shoot himself.

The sheriff's office has indentified the woma as 34-year-old Kelly Wharen. Her husband, the suspect in the shooting, is 37-year-old Patrick Wharen, Sr.

According to the sheriff's office, Patrick Wharen walked into Kelly Wharen's residence Friday evening and opened fire, killing his wife and another man. When he turned the gun on himself, the couple's teenage son tried to wrest the gun away and it went off, hitting the gunman and the boy.

Both were taken to Holmes Regional Hospital where the teenager is listed in critical condition, while Wharen is stable.

The sheriff's office was continuining its investigation at the scene on Saturday.
