DAYTONA BEACH -- The beaches are empty, and the streets are too. This year's Black College Reunion, which ends on Sunday, is a big disappointment when compared to BCR's of the past. Now, Channel 9 has learned, this could be the last BCR ever -- at least to go by that name, if one promoter gets his way.Thomas Copeland says he wants Black College Reunion to appeal to a bigger audience, so he's proposing a name change. In a news conference Monday, he will announce the name "Jamsplash" as his proposed replacement.Copeland says he wants the festivities to appeal not only to black people, but also to white, Hispanic and other groups of people. He says times have changed, and the event can now attract all sorts of different groups; and a name change will help boost attendance.Copeland also blames the economy and high gas prices as part of the problem this year.
